Playable content in Early Access
The Early Access includes the first third of Hoenn, every interior along the route, three Gyms and around 3–6 hours of story progress.
- A lead Pokemon that follows you outside its Pokeball
- Day and night, changing encounters and real-time berry growth
- Automatic HM actions after the matching HM is obtained
- Breeding, move tutoring, portable PC boxes and the Game Corner
- Trainer rematches after earning the first three Badges
- Peer-to-peer Pokemon trading and controller support
Everything beyond Mauville City remains in development and is closed off in this release.

The first launch can take several minutes while shaders compile. This is expected; let the game finish preparing before closing it.
Run the Windows build
Extract first, then play.
- Download the Windows ZIP from Game Jolt or itch.io.
- Extract the complete archive into its own folder.
- Open the extracted folder and run the game application.
- Keep the remaining folders beside the application file.
These are standard steps for the ZIP build. The official pages do not list a separate installer.
Existing players
How to update to v1.13.1
Use the method that matches how your current copy of Pokemon Gamma Emerald was installed. These steps are for updating an existing copy, not for a first-time installation.
Itch.io / Game Jolt launcher users
Let the launcher update the game.
- Close Pokemon Gamma Emerald if it is currently running.
- Reopen the game through the Itch.io or Game Jolt launcher/client.
- The launcher should download the v1.13.1 update automatically.
Launcher users do not need to manually delete the installation just to apply this update.
ZIP download users
Replace the old installation with a fresh copy.
- Close Pokemon Gamma Emerald.
- Delete the old game installation folder.
- Download the latest ZIP again using one of the official download options on this page.
- Extract the fresh v1.13.1 build into its own folder.
- Launch the new copy normally.
Your existing save file should remain safe. Deleting the old game installation folder is not the same as deleting your save file, so do not intentionally remove your save when updating.
Early Access notes
Save often and give each area time to load.
Lower-end systems may load routes and towns slowly or pause during important battle moments. Low storage or memory can make this more noticeable.
- Only single battles are included in the current release
- Stick to one control method during a play session
- No Android, iOS, macOS or Linux build is available
- Report crashes with the Saved/Logs folder on Discord

Avoid unofficial mirrors and APK claims
Avoid mobile APK claims, reposted archives and downloads in comment sections. Pokemon Gamma Emerald version 1.13.1 is a standalone Windows 64-bit game and does not require a Pokemon Emerald ROM or emulator.
