Quick Guide
- Return the Devon Goods and meet Mr. Stone at Devon Corporation.
- Accept the letter for Steven and the delivery for Slateport.
- Return to Mr. Briney’s cottage on Route 104 and sail to Dewford.
- Defeat Brawly in Dewford Gym to earn the Knuckle Badge.
- Enter Granite Cave northwest of town and collect Flash near the entrance.
- Find Steven in the deepest accessible room and deliver Mr. Stone’s letter.
- Return to Mr. Briney and sail to Slateport through Route 109.
Devon Corporation and Mr. Stone
After you return the Devon Goods, the researcher gives a reward and escorts you into Devon Corporation. Follow the scene to the third-floor office, where company president Mr. Stone recognizes the help you gave his staff.
Mr. Stone asks you to deliver a letter to Steven in Dewford. The Devon Goods must also reach Captain Stern in Slateport, so the two requests create a connected trip across the southern sea. Let the full office conversation finish before leaving; the Personal Device also receives the story update used for the journey.

Leave Rustboro and Return to Mr. Briney
Walk south from Devon Corporation toward Rustboro’s lower exit. Your rival may stop you near the southern side of the city and offer a battle. Accepting provides useful experience before Dewford, but the sea route remains the main objective after the encounter.
Continue south across Route 104, pass through Petalburg Woods and return to Mr. Briney’s cottage on lower Route 104. Because you rescued Peeko, Mr. Briney now agrees to carry you to Dewford.
Sail to Dewford Town
Speak to Mr. Briney inside the cottage and choose Dewford. Board at the dock outside; the trip then crosses Routes 105 and 106 automatically, showing the boat travelling over Gamma Emerald’s open water.
The boat stops beside Dewford’s southern pier. Mr. Briney remains available here, so you can later return to Petalburg or continue toward Slateport without walking back across the earlier routes.
Dewford Town
Heal at the Pokemon Center after arriving. Dewford has two major objectives: Brawly’s Gym near the center of town and Steven inside Granite Cave to the northwest. The Gym is the practical first stop because its badge prepares you for using the cave’s Flash support.
Build a healthy team before entering the Gym. Flying- and Psychic-type attacks are the clearest answers to Fighting Pokemon, while frail Normal types can struggle. Stock a few healing items because the interior trainers lead directly toward Brawly.
Dewford Gym and Brawly
The Gym begins with limited visibility. Move through the visible portion of the room and challenge the trainers along the branching path. Each win expands the lit area, making the correct route to the Gym Leader easier to read.
Brawly waits in the final room. Heal your main counter before speaking to him, use Flying- or Psychic-type attacks where possible and do not give his team repeated setup turns.

Granite Cave and Flash
Leave Dewford by following the northwest shoreline until the cave opening appears in the cliff. Inside, speak to the hiker close to the entrance. He adds Flash to the Personal Device, which improves visibility on the darker lower floors without requiring a party Pokemon to learn the move.
Use the ladders and open corridors to descend. Several ledges and walls look similar in the dark, so check the floor label after each transition and keep moving toward Steven’s separate room rather than returning to the entrance.

Find Steven and Deliver the Letter
Steven is waiting in a chamber marked by the mural and glowing stones. Speak to him and hand over Mr. Stone’s letter. The scene introduces Steven properly and closes the first Devon request.
Steven gives you TM47 Steel Wing after reading the letter. Leave his room, retrace the cave route and return to Dewford. There is no need to remain underground once the delivery and reward are complete.

Route 109 and the Slateport Beach
Return to Mr. Briney at the Dewford pier and choose Slateport. The boat drops you at the wooden pier on Route 109 instead of inside the city, leaving a short beach route between you and the Devon Goods delivery.
Walk north from the pier across the sand. Beach trainers and the Seashore House are optional, but they provide extra experience before the longer Slateport story. Continue to the paved northern entrance when you want to enter the city and begin Part 4.
